Father and Son team on the Corrie Cobbles

Matthew Crompton, the new face on the Corrie cobbles. He's perhaps more recently remembered for his role as PC Sam Harker in the long-running ITV drama The Bill.
The accomplished actor has also appeared in various other TV shows, Brookside, Heartbeat, Casualty, and Lead Balloon. He’s also appeared with the Royal National Theatre.

He’s going to be playing Dan James Mason as a loveable loser. He works for his dad Harry, who is played by former bad girls star Jack Ellis (Jim Fenner). Dan and Harry are the new owners of the bookies on Rosamund Street. Dan’s in his early 30s, he’s someone who enjoys ducking and diving. He has a bit of a rough edge to him. Dan and Harry are both very streetwise. The pair are real Jack the Lads. With Harry on his third divorce, Dan is not about to follow in his footsteps and has serious commitment issues. Matthew describes the pair as more like mates than a father and son act. Dan is a massive flirt and got a good eye for the ladies and wants to makes his presence felt on the Street.

Jack Ellis has just finished filming his role in the film Outlaw (2007), staring Danny Dyer and Sean Bean. He’s also appeared in soaps such as ‘Where the heart is’, ‘Heartbeat’ and dramas such as ‘Casualty’. Jack describes Harry as a bit shady and a bit of a ladies' man. ‘He’s making sure the residents of Weatherfield don't cross him’.
Matthew dishes the dirt on who his favourite Corrie character as well as his and Jack‘s relationship.

Do you and Jack get on as well as you do on set, off set?

"Really well. Jack’s a very warm, generous man who has loads of good advice. It was obvious from the auditions we work well together."

Who’s your favourite Coronation Street character? #

"I love Blanche Hunt. Maggie Jones, who plays her, has great timing. Being a big Red Dwarf fan I also like Craig Charles, who plays Lloyd, and Simon Gregson’s a comic genius."

How long will you be around for?

"All being well I should be in the Street for three years at least! I plan to move to Manchester from Kent. I’m a northern lad anyway – half my family are scousers and the other half are from St Helens."
